Survey ~ Would you want the doctors to tell you if you had a terminal illness?

My father is a retired GP and during his medical career, only one patient asked if he had cancer.

Survey ~ Would you want the doctors to tell you if you had a terminal illness?
Yes I would want to know then I could straighten out my affairs %26amp; make sure my children are well catered for.

I was diagnosed with brain tumor, its multiple space occupying lesion my neurologist told me and without batting an eyelash i asked her how many more months will i live, what is the probability of me coming out alive with a surgery. She didn't assure me so I told her I will leave the tumor and just live with it. It was hard to accept at first but I have to live on not so much for me but for my kids. That was in 1997 and its 2008 and i am still alive.
Reply:Yes but I wouldn't want to know how long I'd got left. My dad was terminally ill with cancer but he didn't ask how long he'd got and that was good. In the end he only had a year. I wouldn't want to be lied to though and told I'd got 3 years or something and then only get 6 months.
Reply:That's a tricky one because normally, I would want to know but sometimes I think it's better off not knowing. I don't want to live the rest of my life in fear knowing I'll die soon enough. I would just want to let it be even if it's my life.
Reply:As a nurse, I have been with surgeons when they delivered "the news" to other patients. I wouldn't want to hear it really, but you can't fight what you cannot see or do not know about and understand.
Reply:well i think it would be a bit messed up if the doc knew and didnt tell you =/ theres things to be straightened out and goodbyes to be said and things to be done...
Reply:Yes. If diagnosis is 100% positive.
Reply:yes i would because that way could make all arrangements and do the things i have always wanted to do
