2nd career? Database Administrator or Network Installation?

I'm a graphic designer (successful enough) and NEED a career change. Burnt out. I've been soul searching for a new career.

One of my problems is I'm really having a problem sitting at a desk for 8+ hours a day. Advertising is a burn out position and I'm capped out salary wise. I'm not looking for a big salary, just want to be excited about what I do again.

Soooo. I've been looking at alternatives. Everything from Electrician, HVAC, Surveying but it always comes back full circle to what I'm good at. Computers.

DBA or Networking? What are the jobs really like? Potential? Best training? Is it interesting? Networking (Cisco?) appeals to me because it seems like my day would be broken up a bit more?

What do you think?

2nd career? Database Administrator or Network Installation?
both of these jobs seem to entail a lot of troubleshooting, in my experience (disclaimer: I've been a DBA, but only sat near, and begged for help from, network admins). Both of these jobs seem to entail a lot of desk sitting (again, just in my experience) but it looked to me like the network guys had more excuses to get up and take a walk than we did. I think I could theoretically have done my job without ever leaving my desk. Ever. I would take a walk to do a face-to-face chat rather than use phone or email just for a change of scenery.

Interesting? I think most jobs are as interesting as you make them. For example, as a DBA, I always found it much more interesting to do some automation of my job. So when fixing problems, it was always more interesting to figure out how to detect that problem in the future, or set up something to auto-correct it, than to just fix it.

Have you thought about (ugh) web development? Yeah, I know if feels like the whole world is doing it, but you might be able to leverage some of that graphic design experience and take it in a new direction? of course, that's totally a sit-on-your-bottom all day type of job, so maybe that's right out the window....
